jai yen:

A Thai phrase and way of being, ‘jai yen’ directly translates as ‘cool heart’. In a deeper sense, it expresses a calm, peaceful and patient mindset.

Welcome

Looking to build a better relationship with your body?  To feel more agency in managing mental stress, emotional wellbeing and change? To move your body, notice your breath and be curious about what happens next?

Yoga is for all our bodies… all our minds.

All you need do, is find the right yoga space for you.

Your Yoga practice should be just that, yours. Whether playful or mindful, it is ever changing, just like you. Handstands make for good photos but they certainly aren’t the goal for most of us, feeling embodied is.

Yin Yoga is a real passion of mine. Students come to the mat to shift from ‘doing’ to ‘being’ . Yin provides a balance to busy-ness. Find your version of the pose, linger and observe.

It’s all Yoga.

It’s all about intention.

Find a class that works for your wellbeing

I run classes at different times of the day with differing intentions. Perhaps you’re seeking an active Early Bird Hatha class to awaken or a Strengthening class to support change in all its forms. Maybe, it’s a slow-paced Yin practice you’re drawn to, with deep, mindful stretches or a nourishing Restorative class to process thoughts and soothe the Nervous System.

Why practice with me?

jai yen classes and workshops with Nathalie

As I see it, the most important part of my job is to create and hold a space. Everyone is welcome. If your intention is to explore how yoga benefits your mind and body, you’re ready. This is a friendly, supportive community and the transformation is completely yours to own and enjoy.

I teach functional Yoga, which means there’s no one way, just the way that suits your body. My teaching is trauma-informed, Parkinson’s and Dementia-informed and hypermobility-informed. I provide and guide the space, the practice and the agency are yours.

The best people to ask are my students!

Read more about their experiences.

…and come and see for yourself. Nathalie x

Which practice resonates with you?

Restorative Yoga

The quietest, most ‘Yin’ style of yoga. Just as more active Yoga practices result in adaptations in our tissues, Restorative Yoga builds adaptations in our neural pathways. Supporting the body and allowing it to rest fully, clears the way for thoughts to flow, to soothe the nervous system and build mental resilience to anxieties and stress.

A twice monthly practice, 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month, 5:30pm Shakti Den Studio.

Functional Yoga

The Yoga we most associate with a Yoga class! Beginning with a gentle warm up, we will explore the poses as they work in our individual bodies and have fun bringing movement together in a flow. There is an emphasis on exploring range of motion and building strength, both of which support our ever changing bodies.

Tuesdays, 6:30am, Rise and Yoga, Shakti Den.

Also coming soon, Yoga for Strength & Change.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is comprised of primarily floor-based poses. Lingering for 2-6 minutes, the poses allow us to release muscular effort and stretch deeper, connective tissue and fascia. Each pose becomes a mini meditation where we can focus on settling the mind and watching the breath. Often a challenging practice for people used to being on the go 24/7, but it invariably becomes a favourite!

Take your pick from Thursday evenings 5:30pm & Friday mornings 10am, both at Shakti Den.

Yoga for Strength & Change

As our bodies change through midlife, Yoga is a wonderful way to strengthen muscles and mobilise through the joints. Discover how change can be empowering!

Join me in the spring to explore and fine tune all that inner strength!

Chair Yoga

A chair is an invaluable yoga prop! If you’ve ever tried it, you’ll appreciate the surprising depths of stretch it can offer. It’s also brilliantly inclusive for anyone needing a little extra support (like I did, post op!). If you would like to arrange a Chair Yoga class for a community group, please get in touch. I am trained in Parkinson’s/Dementia-informed Yoga and would be delighted to bring Yoga’s gift of connection and movement to your setting, free of charge.
